Country Living Ain't THAT Bad

Today, I was gently reminded of how fortunate (yes, I said fortunate) I am to not live in Northern VA:

GeeGee and I went to get our wedding bands finalized. We decided to take the scenic route back through Georgetown. First of all, there is NO such thing as a stroll threw Georgetown. . .including a walk. . . (unless you want to dodge people and cars).

Once we got through Georgetown, we thought we were okay. Now we were triumphantly going to enjoy a scenic view of DC. . .the monuments, Capitol, ect. .. EXCEPT, there was a "National Kite Party" happening. . .

A 3 hour drive from Rockville, MD to Woodbridge, VA (maybe a total of 40 miles) only led to tension and anxiety. First of all, GeeGee drives a Ford Edge. NOT (by any stretch of the means) a easily maneuverable vehicle in Northern VA. After a plethora of cuss words, air brakes (from the passenger seat), and middle fingers, we made it back to Woodbridge in one piece. The highlight of the day? A man drove in the lane ending lane only to cut us off at the very last minute. His license plate read: BLQISME

No comment (at least on this blog).

Hey, at least it has inspired me to make a post!?!

Snow In VA

But again, Virginia has been dumped on. AND there seems to be more in the forecast :(

I think it is the Mainer in me that wouldn't allow myself to get trapped in the snow.

GeeGee is out of town. I sure hope the snow melts before HE gets home. . I didn't shovel his side of the driveway. .. .

10 Reasons To LMAO OR LYAO

I have been having serious trouble sleeping. Nightmares and everything!! GeeGee has been gone, and will be gone until the 19th :( He blames my irritability and nightmares on the fact that he is gone . . .

So, I got home today feeling a little tired and irritable. .to say the least. My phone rang, and I looked at the caller ID. It was this dang survey company calling for the 1k time (last night they called at 9pm after I had finally shut my eyes after several sleepless nights. .). I answered the phone and agreed to take their survey so they would stop calling me. They told me it would only take a couple of minutes. I told them they had TWO. On the third question, I failed the survey and was no longer a candidate. . .HAH! I "was not in my current job for more than 6 months". Take that (1)! I told them to take me off their list (mf's. . .!).

I carried on with my evening by starting to make some potato leek soup (very yummy might I add. . .), when I noticed my stove was no longer lit. It seemed as though my gas was out (2). . and I am not referring to my energy. After a little troubleshooting, I realized my fireplace was out, the burners were not lighting with my handy dandy lighter, and the oven was not preheating for the quiche I was about to prep for. My first thought was, GeeGee "didn't take care of the gas bill!!". . .. I called him up, and he couldn't remember the gas company we have an account with (3)!!! SOOOO - I went outside to read the propane tank in the sleet .. . .YES SLEET(4). . .and fell on my a** when I slipped down the stairs (5)!! I collected myself, and got the name of the company. Of course I have to call them in the morning to get this taken care of, OR they will charge their emergency fee(6). I called my girl, Aklet, to vent so that GeeGee didn't get to have all the fun. She suggested that I take the soup that I started to make, put it in a Tupperware as is, and save it until he gets home and serve it to him for dinner (7). . GREAT idea!! Instead, I cooled off, and decided to bring out the ole fryin' pan. . .It was in this frying pan that I continued to cook my soup (????). I put it in the blender to puree it up. . . Evidently, the soup was too hot and the blender was too full, so it spilled out ALL over the place in the kitchen AND burned my hand(8). . .yup, all over the computer. . .the Christmas cards on the counter, the floor, and ME... . (I know. . LOL. . and LOLA!!).

Anyway, this is what and how I had dinner tonight (9):

And now I am finishing that bottle of w(h)ine (10)!. . . .Now I am LMFAO!

GeeGee and His Dad

Our visit went well. GeeGee's dad came in town with his wife this weekend. We went to dinner, and managed to sneak in some brief time together on Sunday (before the party). Pheeeewww! That was stressful!!

Surprise From Daddy Two

This weekend is a BIG weekend for me. . . .GeeGee's dad is flying in today. . . . I beleive he is coming to check things out with his future daughter-in-law.

Will I pass the Greek's test?? Wish me luck!

10K Anyone!?!

Ukrops (our local grocery) had their annual 10K Walk/Run. I, on the other hand, worked my BUTT off at work. Buddy's was SLAMMED all weekend. I think I did the 10K TWICE.

Funny story:

We have a 2 for 1 deal at Buddy's from 10-12. You should SEE the people it attracts (it is sooo fun!). Some people try to sneak in, 10 minutes before 12, sit at a dirty table, and try to order IMMEDIATELY when you go to clear off the table.
I had this one group yesterday, that came in, and did just that. The thing is, it is not my call whether you get there before noon. The computer turns off the special at 12 o'clock (technology is AWESOME). So, I gave these people their check, and the man claimed that I have made a mistake:
"Ma'am, there is a mistake on my check. You charged us for ALL of our meals, and we got the two-for-one.. . ."
"Actually sir, the special is only until 12 o'clock. The computers automatically turn off the special after 12. "
(The man then gets angry- over $10 - and gets in my face)
"We were here BEFORE noon! We sat down and ordered! I know we did!!"
"Again sir, I have no control over the timer on the computer. . . "
"WELL, I need to see a manager then!!"
"YOU are looking at her!!" (I then walked away, since he was wasting my time, and I thought I was going to PUNCH him)
Anywho, the man came in and demanded that if I was the manager, then I could take it off his check. I proceeded to tell him to just leave and I would pay for his meals. He said, "Thanks. I appreciate it!" I told him that it was no problem, and "Thanks for taking $20 out of my pocket!"
What an ASS!?!

Our Own March Madness

This week, the South was hit with a MAJOR snow storm (snicker, snicker. . . ). RIC got a WHOPPING 6-8 inches of snow. It is the first time that Richmond has gotten snow in years where it actually stuck to the ground for more than 3 hours.

Needless to say, we were out of school for THREE days, and STILL had a two hour delay on Thursday. This brought back some school day memories of living up North. I remember we had to have six to eight feet of snow to get delayed. . . .(a slight exaggeration).

I am not complaining about my short work week by any means! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing:

  • People panic over having to bring out their boots for the snow
  • Find a shovel at the store for their walkways (which of course was jacked up to $20 to buy)
  • Clear off their cars (and make sure that the "snow" didn't effect the starting of the car)
  • Drive through the unplowed roads
  • Worry about opening their doors (with ALL the snow in the way. . .trapped I say!)

I, on the other hand, enjoyed:

  • drinking
  • sleeping
  • eating
  • laughing

I hope you enjoyed your snow days if you had them!!

Karma

I've had my good girl panties on so far this year, meaning I have not been partaking in drinking. GeeGee's friend, Yusif, has been visiting from Northern Virginia (in order to stay away from the inauguration madness). In order to be a good hostess, I decided to do a little drinking on Saturday. . .
We had a grand old time, Yusif and I. . .We bickered until the wee hours of the morning, until we both found our spots sleeping on the couch, not able to make it to bed.
When I woke, at 8 am, I went to my room to find a CATASTROPHE. Water was spewing ALL over my carpet in my bedroom from the bathroom. In my haze, I reached under the sink and cut off the valve that was allowing water to DUMP all over the place.
Later, I got ROBBED by a friend of a friend plumber that came over to "check things out for me", and then tell me that he made an "emergency weekend service call" and it was going to cost me $50. . .
To sum things up, I made a call to my home owner's insurance, making a claim for the damages: carpet - $300, sink console - $400, woodwork - $ 1,000, paint - $200, dresser - $350, wet vac - $50, being too hung over to deal with such a CATASTROPHE - PRICELESS
Moral of this blog: Don't drink after you decide you are going to wear good girl panties

Traveling Pet PEEVES

Like many people, I traveled for the holidays. I don't know if it was just because I have been sick, or what. . . .but, man. . ! I REALLY hate stupid people. Here is a list of some of the TOP ten things that made me feel like HAPPY GILMORE:

10. People letting their children run WILD around the airport - I watched a woman let her child run AROUND everyone in line at check-in, over to the counters, back through the lines, and out the automatic doors FEET away from the street - NICE

9. Not having your ID out and ready

8. Having to be reminded of the rules of security. . .Never mind that the airports are at HIGH alert (shoes off, computers out, no more than 2 oz. of liquids IN Ziploc bags. . . .COME ON people. . You DO know the drill!!)

7. Trying to redress yourself after you've gone through security at the end of the conveyor belt. . .so everyone can trip over you as they grab their things from the bins

6. RUSHING to load the plane. . .just in case your seat that you paid A LOT of money for is no longer available

5. Talking while the flight attendant is giving their speech (Come on PEOPLE! You know they don't REALLY enjoy doing it, they just have to! Be POLITE!)

4. Not turning off your cell phones, electronic devices, putting up your seat and tables for take off. REALLY people. . .Do you need to delay the take off for that?!?

3. Landing

2. People rushing off the plane to PASS you when you have been seated in front of them - If your in such a rush, why don't you choose your seats BEFORE you get on the plane??

1. Waiting for your bags at the conveyor belt, giving ample room for people to step in front of you IF they see their bags, and for STUPID people to step in front of you (yes, in that 2 foot personal space - and believe me, under my breath I say loud enough for them to hear - " Excuse you when I see my bag and WIPE you out with it as I take you out when I grab my bag off the conveyor belt)

Holiday Shopping

I will preface with saying, I AM D.O.N.E. shopping!! Which is MORE than an accomplishment for me. . .I am one of those last minute shoppers. . .Or better yet, I am one of those AFTER the holiday sales shoppers (I usually mail my presents, so the recipients don't know the difference because I am USUALLY out of town --or out of the country). WELL, this year, I am making it home for Christmas (hurray, yipeeeee, whooohooo!!).

Anyway, the holiday season is suppose to be about PEACE and LOVE, right? (and no, this is not the hippie in me speaking) Have you been out to the STORES lately. . . ? Well, I have. . .GeeGee and I went shopping this weekend (and it was HIS idea). Anyway, we were in line and a new register opened up. The lady in front of me BOLTED to new open register by PUSHING my cart out of HER way to get through. . .No excuse me, no sorry, just RUDENESS. . .
Where is the Peace and Love?
Yeah, you probably guessed it. . .I had a few choice words for her under my breath. . .well, loud enough for her to hear them. . .

Attack of the FLIES

I got a phone call the other day, that caused a SERIOUS flashback of a FREAK OUT!! Jules called me, with a concern of an abundance of flies found in her windows. She asked me if I had the same problem. . .Which brought me to my flashback:

One day last Fall, I noticed a numerous amount of flies in my windows. I gingerly lifted up my window shades, and started SWATTING away vigorously!! I hopped from window to window, killing flies!! By the time I got through swatting at ALL the living room windows, and ALL the kitchen windows, I noticed that the flies just seemed to magically multiply. THE WINDOWS WERE FILLED BACK UP. Frustrated and annoyed, several thoughts went through my head: Is there something DEAD under my house? Are there maggots somewhere? Is there a window OPEN somewhere?? What the HELL is going on???? The next day, I came home and began swatting away again. It wasn't working. . . The flies were just coming BACK! Time for plan B! I pulled out the vacuum cleaner, and started vacuuming up the live (and dead) flies from the windows.

Eventually, plan B worked. My problem was no longer the flies in the windows (which I STILL don't know what caused it) - It was the abundance of fly GUTS all over the inside of my windows.

Moral of this story - Jules: I have NO idea, but use a vacuum.

A Batty Evening

My Nana lives in an old house on the lake. I remember spending time there as a child, but haven't spent nearly enough time up there recently (like in the PAST 15 YEARS. . .).
My sister and I were spending the night there last night, and she was talking about how she has had to chase flying squirrels and bats out of the house (they get in from somewhere). So, we were going to bed, and she announces: There's a BAT in here flying around. I of course, see the bat and throw the covers over my head (good thing Lil' Sis was downstairs sleeping. . .she would have had the major FREAK out). Nana grabs her electric mosquito racket and starts swatting at the bat screaming, "I can't find my net! Where is my net!" Of course, both of us were also laughing hysterically as Nana ran around the room chasing the bat with the electric mosquito racket.

The TEST

Yesterday, a group of us went to Godfrey's for brunch. I asked GeeGee to go, knowing that he had NO IDEA what he was getting into (I know, I am ROTTEN!). It ended up being a group of 14 girls that went, GeeGee making 15(the only guy!). GeeGee first realized that he was the only guy in our group when we were outside, but what he didn't realize is that it wasn't going to be OUR group of girls to harass him. . .The pictures will tell the story:

Need I say more??
The TEST: NO WOOD

Did I Win?

So, the other night, I was actually a DD (I know that is hard to believe) for GeeGee's birthday. He had a friend in town, and we were with his cousin as well.
As the night was ending (and intoxication was taking its win on the others), there were a few miscommunications.

That night, GeeGee tried to pick a fight with me about the miscommunications. Surprisely, I reacted in a calm tone (or really, a "I am not willing to discuss this" tone). Fortunely, it worked, and there was no heated discussion. The next day, I asked GeeGee about it. He admitted to trying to pick a fight with me.

Does that mean I won?

Sunday, Funday!

After a freak out to the time change, today started with a little church on the television at work. Once Cougar started feeling sick, Sunday School didn't seem so appropriate. We called in our reinforcements, and carried on with the day.
Today turned out to be fun day. . . I had a successful, painless day at work, and I not ONCE got totally frustrated with bad restaurant etiquette. I think the coolest thing about today, was that I left work and it was still light out. Just as I had a freak out this morning before work, I had an enlightening freak out this afternoon. . . .
Conclusion: I could never be a vampire. . . .
On a side note: New tuna steak topping for dinner = horseradish, rice wine vinegar, fresh diced ginger, Dijon mustard, and pepper. . .YUM!!
